Ventilator & Respiratory Support

When a patient cannot breathe safely on their own, the ICU provides continuous respiratory support — from oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation to full mechanical ventilation. At Reliance Hospital, respiratory care is managed by consultant intensivists with critical care nursing and respiratory specialist input.

Who Needs Respiratory Support

Patients with severe pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, post-operative respiratory failure, neurological injury affecting breathing, or multi-organ illness often need ICU-level respiratory care. The decision is always clinical and reviewed daily.

Seeing a loved one on a ventilator can be distressing. Our team explains what the machines do, why support is needed, and how we plan to wean when it is safe. Ask the nurse in charge or the consultant during family updates if you have questions.
