Haemodynamic monitoring means watching how the heart and circulation are performing in real time. In the ICU, unstable patients need more than intermittent ward checks — they need continuous observation and rapid adjustment of fluids, medicines, and support.
What We Monitor
Continuous arterial and non-invasive blood pressure where indicated
Heart rate, rhythm, and ECG changes
Fluid balance and urine output
Response to vasopressors and inotropes when required
Oxygenation and perfusion as part of the full ICU picture
Who Benefits
This level of monitoring is used for post-operative cardiac and major surgical patients, septic shock, heart failure decompensation, and any patient whose blood pressure or perfusion is unstable.
How Decisions Are Made
The ICU consultant leads daily reviews with the multidisciplinary team. Targets for blood pressure and fluid therapy are individualised — and explained to families in plain language during updates.
What Families Can Expect
You may see more monitors, lines, and infusion pumps at the bedside. These allow the team to respond quickly. Staff will orient you to the environment and answer questions about what you are seeing.
